Raw shrimp price increasing

By the end of September 2012, prices for shrimp in Mekong Delta increased by VND 15,000 – 20,000 (US$0.7 – 1 USD)/kg over the those in July due to lack of raw shrimp.

20 pieces per kilo size is paid by local traders at VND 210,000 and 30 pcs size is at VND135,000 per kilo. Price of whiteleg shrimp is up VND 2,000 per kilo. 100 pcs per kilo of whiteleg shrimp size is at VND 80,000.

Higher raw shrimp price partly because local processors are boosting shrimp purchase to meet orders from foreign customers and the harvest season finished. Disease spread in many shrimp farms in the country caused lower shrimp supply and increasing raw shrimp price in the market.
