Under the plan, a production hub will be built in Can Tho to serve fish farming areas in theMekong delta.
It will not be the only center raised with public funds to boost the sector. There will be another fishing hub in Kien Giang province to be linked with fisheries of the southwest region.
From now to 2020, Mekong Delta will have up to 56 proposed fishery projects calling for a total investment of more than VND 2,600 billion ($122 million).
This flow is expected to be poured into production of pangasius, shrimp and mollusk species; diversification of seafood products; wild fish catch; aquatic seed breeding; infrastructure, technologies and human resources.
"Fishery is a key business sector of Mekong Delta; however, regional aquaculture and wild catch activities in the region have not reached [their] potentials,” says the article.
On Dec. 20, Vietnam’s ministry of agriculture and rural development held a conference to address thepromotion ofinvestment into the fishery sector in the Mekong delta, in cooperation with the authorities of the southwestern region
"It is necessary to reorganize the fishery sector”, theemployers organization remarked,”in order toimprove the fish production chain towards higher value and more diversified products”.
The entity is a non-governmental organization. Members include enterprises of all economic forms, administrative agencies and authorities in seafood exporting and processing sectors of Vietnam. They represent 80% of the total seafood exports of Vietnam.
