Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have reiterated their determination to wrap up negotiation on a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of this year, during the fifth round of talks which took place in Seoul from May 20-23.

Vietnamese pangasius exports to Brazil reached USD 106.04 million from January to November 2013, a year-on-year rise of 56 per cent, according to Vietnam Customs. This figure represents the highest growth among shipments to the eight key markets for Vietnam’s pangasius products.

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam seafood exports in 2013 outreached the target of US$6.5 billion to reach US$6.7 billion. The figure was attributable to a great contribution of shrimp export turnover with over US$3 billion, making up 46 percent of the country’s total seafood exports.

According to Vietnam Customs, the country’s seafood exports in 2013 hit US$6.7 billion, up 9.6 percent year-on-year. The figure included shrimp sales of over US$3 billion, up 39 percent year-on-year; pangasius sales of US$1.76 billion, up 1 percent; tuna export turnover of US$527 million, down 7.2 percent and US$448 million of cephalopod exports, down 11 percent.

Vietnam harvested 4.5 million MT of fish

According to Directorate of Fisheries, through September 2013, total fish production reached 4.5 million MT, up 2.7 percent over 2012. In which, marine fish landing totaled 2.1 million MT (+3.3 percent) and aquaculture production reached 2.4 million MT (+2.1 percent)
Up in price of pangasius exported to the U.S. and the EU

Between January and July 2013, Vietnam pangasius exports totaled US$985.09 million, down 0.6 percent against the compatible period of 2012. Pangasius products were sent to 137 countries and territories, compares to 130 markets registered in the previous year. The eight leading fish importers, including the U.S., the EU, ASEAN, Brazil, Mexico, China, Saudi Arabia and Colombia, represented 76.5 percent of overall export value. Shipments to the EU and Saudi Arabia were on the downtrend. Exported prices dealt with American and European buyers have been increasing since April due to higher demands.
