In August 2017, Vietnam’s pangasius export value to China was double that to the U.S. Thus, China - Hong Kong became the largest importer of Vietnam pangasius in the first 8 months of this year with the value of US$247.4 million, accounting for 21.3% of the total export value, up 43.9% over the same period last year.

In the first four months of 2017, Vietnam’s exports of processed pangasius to the EU posted a sharp year-on-year increase of 89.5%. Of that, shipments of processed pangasius (HS code 16) to Spain increased by more than 1,096% and those to the Netherlands rose by 228.3% over the same period in 2016. In order to keep this growth, Vietnamese enterprises have to change their strategies, which will be towards increasing exports of high quality products and raise their products to the EU.

According to the ITC, in 2012, Saudi Arabia imported only 192 MT of frozen pangasius (HS 030324) with the value of about US$365,000. After five years, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia showed the 57-time increase in volume to hit nearly 11 thousand MT and 49-time rise in value to touch US$17.7 million.
